Can you do tawaf without Ihram

Ihram is a dress that is worn by men in order to perform Umrah. It is a two piece white cloth where the upper part of the Ihram that covers the upper body is called Rida and the lower part that is used to cover the lower body from navel to ankle is called Izar. The literal meaning of Ihram is to be forbidden which means while entering the Ihram some acts become haram and you need to keep yourself away otherwise you are subjected to pay Dam. The significance of the Ihram is that they are all equal in front of the creator irrespective of colour, creed, rich or poor.

Tawaf! Tawaf means circling Kabba seven times in anticlockwise direction and is the first and the main step while you are in Ihram. However, it is not mandatory to be in Ihram inorder to perform Tawaf. You can perform Umrah anytime as there are mainly five types of Tawaf.

1. Tawaf-ul-Umrah: This type of Tawaf is performed while in Ihram and performing Tawaf is the main step. It is actually one of the fard of the Umrah and if a person doesn’t do it his/her Umrah is invalid.
2. Tawaf-ul-Qudoom: This type of Tawaf is performed at the start of the Hajj. Once you are about to start Hajj journey you have to remember you need to do Tawa-ul-Qudoom and after that need to further process with the Hajj journey.
3. Tawaf al Ifada: This Tawaf is also known as Tawaf-al-Ziyarah and you need to perform this Tawaf in between Hajj. However, you don’t need to be Ihram while performing Tawaf.
4. Tawaf-al -wida: This Tawaf is known as a farewell Tawaf and is a wajib act of Hajj. A pilgrim that performs Hajj needs to do this Tawaf for completing Hajj journey. However, you don’t need to wear Ihram or to be Ihram to perform this Tawaf.
5. Nafl Tawaf: It is the type of Tawaf that can be performed anytime during the entire Umrah journey. You can perform this Tawaf in normal clothes and not need to be in Ihram.

However, to perform Tawaf in normal clothes there are still requirements that you need to follow these are as under: 1. Purification: In order to perform Tawaf we need to be in proper absolution and in a proper way. While performing Tawaf you need to make seven complete rounds around the Kaaba in anticlockwise direction starting from Hajri Awad to Hajri Aswad and if you leave a single round your Tawaf becomes invalid. If a person performs Tawaf without wudu or absolution then they have to pay Dam (plenty).
2. Proper clothing: A pilgrim who intended to perform Tawaf needs to be in a proper dress. Proper dress doesn’t mean a specific dress but it means a dress that is clean and hides the body of the pilgrim whether a male or a female in a complete way. It is not permissible for the pilgrims to show their body or expose their body in any way therefore proper clothing is an important aspect of Tawaf.
3. Tawaf outside from the Hateem: In Baitullah there is a semi circle which is known as Hateem and is part of Kabba. So a pilgrim who wants to perform Tawaf must do it outside of the Hateem because if you do Tawaf from the inside of Hateem your Tawaf is not valid. So it is important to maintain and manage yourself while performing Tawaf because Tawaf is also worship and one must do it calmly and patiently. However, you can also take small breaks in between Tawaf if you feel dizziness or something but if you able to do it, then you must do it with enthusiasm.
