Safa and Marwa are the two hills and the integral part of Masjid Haram that are connected with the bigger mountains, Abu Qubays and Qaiqan. Both the hills have greater importance in Islam and a pilgrim who are there need to do Sai i.e. walk seven times back and forth as it is one among the rituals of Hajj and Umrah. The distance between Safa and Marwa is approximately 450 m therefore, seven rounds back and forth to Safa and Marwa is roughly 3.6 km that took almost 1 hour and 05 mintus, however, it usually depends on the walking speed of the pilgrims.
Safa and Marwa are small hills where Safa is located at the bottom of the Abu Qubais Mountain that is round about 130 meters to the southeast of the Kabah and Marwa is located 300 meters to the northeast of the Kabah and it is connected to Qaiqan Mountain. When a pilgrim is carrying his/her Umrah or Hajj journey they have to do Saii. Saii means walking seven times back and forth on Safa and Marwa but only if you are in the state of Ihram.
Safa and Marwa hold the story of Hajir and Ismail A.S when Ibrahim A.S left them in the desert by the will of Allah. It states how mother Hajir ran between these two hills for His son Ibrahim A.S who was thirsty. This was the place where angel Gabriel A.S gave assurance to Hajar that someday, her son Ismail A.S and Ibrahim A.S will build the house of Allah at the same location. Safa and Marwa is also mentioned in Quran where Allah says, Safa and Marwa are among the symbols of Allah. So whoever makes Hajj to the House or performs Umrah � there is no blame upon him for walking between them. And whoever volunteers good � then indeed, Allah is appreciative and Knowing.
