What Do They Do With The Old Kaaba Cloth

Kabba is located in Makah and is covered with the Black Silk Cloth known as Kiswah. Kiswah is the cloth that covers the entire Kabba and is embedded with the gold and silver threads on which Quranic Verses are mentioned. Annually Kiswah is replaced with a new one on the 9th Of Dul Hajjijah when pilgrims are leaving for the Arfat during their Hajj journey. The custom of draping Kabba in the new Kiswah is considered Notable. However, millions of pilgrims visit Kabba every year in order to perform Hajj as Hajj is mandatory to carry by the Muslims at least once in their lifetime. During the Hajj time, Kiswah is Raised up to 3 Meters Up and is covered by the white cloth as during the Tawaf, continuous touching and pulling of Kiswah can lead to the torn of the Kiswah.

What Did They Do With The Old Kiswah
At the time of Caliph Umar Bin Al-Khattab, He uses to cut the Kiswah into pieces and Distribute the Kiswah among the pilgrims. However, in the Present Scenario, the Quranic verses on the old Kiswah are Removed and then the Kiswah undergoes a process where it is placed in a government warehouse and afterward, Given to the organizations and visiting Muslim dignitaries.

How much is the Kaaba cloth worth
The Kiswah is about 14 Meters in length and the Hizam i.e. the belt circulating Kabba is 95 cm wide and 47 meters long. Actually, Kiswah consists of Five Pieces of cloths- 4 pieces are used to cover the Kabba from the 4 sides while the 5th Piece is used to cover the door of the Kabba. Almost 670 kg of raw silk is used to make the Kiswah which is then dyed black and 120 kgs of gold threads and 100 kgs of silk threads are used to sew the Quranic verses on the Kiswah. This process occurs annually in the month of Dul-Hijjah. However, the amount that is used for making the Kiswah is about SAR 17,000,000 as the cover is almost about 658 m2.
