How to Perform Umrah for Ladies

Umrah is an act of worship while being physically and spiritually clean by wearing the attire of Ihram. Any Muslim can perform this act of worshipping Allah in any month as Umrah can be performed throughout the year except those of the Hajj days. However, in order to perform Umrah there are some steps that you need to do to complete the journey of Umrah. Although the steps are the same for both men and women, there are some slight changes that ladies need to follow to complete their Umrah Journey.

Umrah for Ladies

The main activities for performing Umrah remains the same for men and women but there are some Umrah rules for ladies that are different from men and these are as under:
Unlike men, women do not have to wear a particular dress as their Ihram as the clothes they are wearing are their Ihram. However, the clothes they are wearing at the time of Umrah should be modest means the clothes should be able to cover their entire body and should be loose fitted so that it doesn’t grab the attention usually most of the women wear Abaya.
During Talbiyah male pilgrims are needed to say Talbiyah loudly whereas Female pilgrims need to recite Talbiyah quietly.
At the end of the sacred rituals of Umrah male pilgrims have to shave or trim their hair but Female pilgrims are required to cut a small hair which is equal to finger tip in order to make their spiritual journey to end.
How to perform Umrah for Ladies step by step
There are usually 4 steps to complete the Umrah journey and they are mentioned below:
1. Wearing Ihram: After cleaning yourself and after ghusl you need to wear new clothes as your clothes will be your Ihram. You cannot change your dressing till the time your Umrah Journey gets completed. Once you have made intention of performing you have to say Talbiyah as it is a sacred recitation and is recited frequently till the time you enter Masjid Haram.
2. Tawaf: Tawaf means circulating the Kabba in an anticlockwise direction seven times which starts from Hajr E Aswad to Hajr E Aswad. Once you are done with the Tawaf you have to pray Namaz behind Muqami Ibrahim and after that drink ZamZam water as much as you can.
3. Sa’ii: Saii means walking back and forth seven times on the hills of Safa and Marwa. From Safa to Marwa your one round gets completed so on your seventh round you will be at Marwa. At Marwa you will leave to do the last step to complete your Umrah Journey.
4. Cutting your hair: Unlike men, women just have to trim a strand of her hair that should be equal to their finger tip. In this way your Umrah journey gets completed.

Umrah Prohibitions

1. Women who are on their menstrual cycles cannot perform the Umrah until their cycle is over. However such a woman should remain in her hotel or apartment and should not enter Masjid-ul-Haram till she takes the bath of purification.
2. A woman in Iddat (the period a woman must observe after the death of her husband or after a divorce) cannot perform Umrah. She needs to complete the waiting period and then can go for Umrah with a Mahram.
3. Women should refrain herself from sexual intercourse during her Umrah.
4. She should refrain herself from hunting, killing or helping hunters in hunting.
5. She cannot propose for marriage during Umrah
6. Women must not show any part of their body except for the face and hands during Umrah Journey. If she wants to use a face veil then she should put a cap and on that she can wear a veil making sure the veil doesn’t touch the face during the Umrah journey.
7. Women must not use perfume or scent. Although she can wear Jewellery but is not encouraged during the pilgrimage.
8. They should wear modest clothes so that they can’t grab the attention of anyone.
Umrah is a significant pilgrimage in Islam and a person should carry it with utmost sincerity. Moreover, women should stick strictly to these guidelines so that their Umrah journey will get accepted so that they can attain spirituality and can come closer to their creator as well.
