Hajj is a journey of faith that a person whether a male or a female can perform in their life. It is a journey that allows a person to be on the land of Makah to witness the Baitullah and Medina where they visit the Prophet's Tomb called Masjid Nabvi. Every Muslims around the globe wants to perform the Holy journey of Hajj as it is a journey of spirituality and one among the five pillars of Islam. However, Hajj is a Wajib act but for a person who is financially and physically capable needs to perform it at least once in their lifetimes. . However, as per Islam, Women cannot perform Hajj without his Mahram. The purpose of Mahram is just to Provide Security and Comfort to Muslim women. The Prophet (P.B.U.H) once said: It is unlawful for a woman who believes in God and the Day of Judgment to travel for three or more days without being accompanied by her father, brother, husband, son, or another male companion i.e. Mahram.

Who is Mahram in Islam

A Mahram is a male relative tied to a woman through blood, breastfeeding or relations after marriage. A Mahram is a male relative of a woman with whom she can’t marry except that of Husband i.e. onto whom Marriage is prohibited. The purpose of Mahram is just to provide security and comfort of Muslim women while being on a journey as she might face difficulties, harassment or unwanted attention. However, a woman can perform Hajj without a Mahram only if there is some exceptional case.

Hajj without Mahram in Islam

As per Islam anyone can perform Hajj but specifically a woman should have a Mahram to accompany her i.e. if a woman wants to perform Hajj she should have a Mahram. According to a Hadith included in the Hadith collections of Bukhari and Muslim, the Prophet (P.B.U.H) once said: It is unlawful for a woman who believes in God and the Day of Judgment to travel for three or more days without being accompanied by her father, brother, husband, son, or another male companion [a Mahram]. So if a woman wants to perform Hajj as per Islamic way then she should have a Mahram either father, brother Uncle (Paternal), Grandfather (Paternal), husband or son.

Can a Woman Go To Hajj without Mahram

As per new rules laid by Saudi Arabia a woman can go to Hajj without Mahram. She no longer needs a Mahram who can accompany her on her journey of Hajj. As said by Saudi's Minister of Hajj and Hajj, "A woman can come to perform Hajj without a Mahram." So if you are women and wish to perform Hajj alone then no need to worry as the rule of Mahram has been abandoned by the Saudi Government and a woman who wants to perform Hajj alone can do it without any hindrance.
